University of Aberdeen

Program Overview

The MSc Business Consulting & Psychology at the University of Aberdeen combines the best of business strategy and psychology, preparing you to become a consultant who can understand both organisations and the people within them. You’ll gain practical consulting skills while learning how to influence teams, manage change, and solve real-world business challenges.

Curriculum Structure

Year / Stage 1
In the first stage, you’ll lay the groundwork in both business and psychology. Courses like Introduction to Business Consulting guide you through consulting theory and real-world practice. Operations & Project Management teaches you how to plan, manage risks, and optimise business processes, while Organisational Culture & Conflict explores how workplace culture shapes behaviour and how conflicts arise and can be managed. Psychology at Work helps you understand how psychological theory applies in everyday workplace situations, from team dynamics to change management.

Year / Stage 2
The second stage deepens your understanding of change, leadership, and practical consulting tools. Managing Change examines how organisations adapt and innovate, while A Psychology Toolkit for Consulting equips you with techniques to assess and advise organisations effectively. The Leadership Challenge helps you explore your own leadership style and develop practical leadership skills. Positive Psychology at Work focuses on what makes workplaces thrive, including motivation, well-being, and resilience.

Year / Stage 3
In the final stage, you put your learning into practice through the Consulting Challenge or a Business Consulting Dissertation. You’ll tackle a real or simulated business consulting project, producing professional reports and solutions under academic supervision, or carry out independent research exploring the intersection of business consulting and psychology.
