Program Overview

The MSc Financial Management with Industrial Placement at Kent Business School gives you the knowledge and skills to make informed financial decisions and manage complex business challenges in a global context. It’s designed for ambitious students who want a combination of rigorous finance theory and practical workplace experience through a year-long professional placement.


Curriculum Structure

Year 1 (Stage 1)
In the first year, you will develop a strong foundation in finance and management. Core modules include Financial Markets and Instruments, where you will explore risk, return, and securities, and Corporate Finance, which covers capital structure, mergers and acquisitions, and dividend policy. You will also study Financial Statement Analysis to understand complex financial information and Sustainable Financial Reporting to assess organisational performance from both traditional and ESG perspectives. Elective options, such as Sustainable Finance, Investment Management, Financial Technology, or Corporate Governance and Ethics, allow you to focus on your interests. You will also have the opportunity to apply your knowledge in practice through a Finance Project or a professional placement.

Year 2 (Industrial Placement – Stage 2)
The second year is focused on a full-length industrial placement, supported by an Industry Placement Report. You will spend around 39-44 weeks working within an organisation relevant to your degree, gaining hands-on experience that integrates academic learning with professional practice. This placement helps you strengthen skills such as communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving, while expanding your professional network. Kent’s Careers and Employability team supports you throughout to help secure and succeed in your placement.
