Program Overview

The MSc Finance at the University of Liverpool Management School is designed to give you a solid foundation in modern finance while helping you build practical skills that employers value. Curriculum structure

Year 1 / Semester One
In the first semester, you’ll get to grips with the fundamentals of finance through modules like Corporate Finance and Valuation, learning how companies make financial decisions, and Portfolio Theory, where you’ll understand risk and return in investments. Financial Econometrics will give you hands-on experience analysing real-world data, and optional modules such as Banking and Financial Institutions or Financial Markets, Financial Regulations and Ethics let you explore areas that match your interests.

Year 1 / Semester Two
The second semester takes your learning further with modules like Security Analysis and Investment and Derivatives, where you’ll develop the skills to evaluate securities and understand complex financial instruments. You’ll also have the chance to choose optional modules like Fixed Income and Risk Management, International Finance, or Corporate Governance and Sustainability, allowing you to tailor the degree to your career goals.

Summer / Dissertation
Over the summer, you’ll complete a Dissertation with guidance from an academic supervisor. This is your chance to apply everything you’ve learned to a real research project, explore a topic that excites you, and demonstrate your expertise to future employers.

Focus areas: Corporate finance, investment analysis, portfolio management, financial econometrics, derivatives, risk management, financial reporting, international finance, and sustainability.
