MSc Sustainable Finance

12 Months On Campus Masters Program

University of Strathclyde

Program Overview

The MSc Sustainable Finance at the University of Strathclyde is designed for people who want to make a real difference in finance — not just crunch numbers, but use financial strategies to drive sustainability. Over a year, you’ll gain the tools to understand ESG (environmental, social, governance) challenges, make informed investment decisions, and see how finance can positively impact the world.

Curriculum Structure

Semester 1

In your first semester, you’ll get to grips with the essentials of finance while exploring how sustainability fits in. Modules like Quantitative Methods for Finance, Principles of Finance, and International Financial Markets & Banking sharpen your analytical skills, while Sustainable Finance introduces the exciting world of ESG investing and its real-world applications. You’ll start connecting the dots between traditional finance and the sustainability challenges shaping today’s markets.

Semester 2

The second semester dives deeper into how sustainable finance works in practice. In Sustainable Finance and Technology, you’ll see how FinTech and data tools help assess ESG risks, while Sustainable Accounting: Theory & Practice teaches you how to interpret sustainability reports and frameworks. Applications of Sustainable Finance ties it all together with hands-on case studies showing how regulations, ratings, and industry standards shape real-world investment decisions.

Summer Research Projects

During the summer, you’ll tackle two research projects that put your knowledge into action. These projects let you analyse ESG data, explore sustainability challenges, and produce work similar to what finance professionals do every day — giving you a real taste of the career ahead.
