Program Overview

This MSc is designed to give you a real understanding of how businesses succeed in a global environment, from strategy and finance to leadership and cultural awareness. It’s perfect if you want to build a career that spans countries and industries, preparing you to thrive in multinational companies, consultancy, or international trade.

Curriculum structure:

  • Getting started: The programme kicks off with a short Foundation Programme to help you settle in, meet your classmates, and choose your pathway. It’s a great way to feel confident and prepared before diving into the core modules.

  • Core learning: You’ll explore modules like International Business Strategy, Internationalisation Strategies, International Business Finance, Managing People and Organisations, Cross-Cultural Management, and Managing the Multinational Enterprise. Through these, you’ll gain practical skills in global strategy, finance, leadership, and cross-cultural communication.

  • Hands-on experience: A key part of the MSc is the International Business Project, where you can work on a real-world business challenge, collaborate with a company, or conduct research that applies your learning in practice.

  • Optional modules: You can also tailor your learning with choices like Operations Management and Change, Marketing Management and Strategy, or Strategic Management & Organisational Analysis — allowing you to focus on the areas that interest you most.

Focus areas: “Global strategy and trade, international finance and investment, cross-cultural leadership, managing multinational organisations, and optional specialisations in marketing or operations.”

Learning outcomes: “Develop the skills to design and assess international business strategies, manage finance and trade across borders, lead multicultural teams, understand global organisational structures, and apply theory to real-world projects.”

Professional alignment (accreditation): The course aligns with professional standards through the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 7 Certificate in Management and Leadership. The Dundee Business School also holds AACSB accreditation, highlighting the quality of teaching and graduate outcomes.

Reputation (employability rankings): Graduates benefit from strong industry links, practical project experience, and global recognition — making them well-prepared for careers in multinational companies, consulting, global trade, or international management.

In this MSc, you’ll go beyond just reading textbooks — you’ll get plenty of hands-on opportunities to apply what you learn in real business situations. From tackling live projects to working directly with companies, the course is designed to help you build practical skills that employers are looking for. You’ll also have access to expert guidance, career support, and industry connections that make stepping into the global business world much smoother.

Here’s how you’ll gain real-world experience:

  • Global internships and projects: Through the International Business Project, you can take on an eight-week internship with a company, a consultancy-style project solving real business challenges, or an independent research report — all giving you practical exposure.

  • Consultancy-style challenges: If you choose the business consultancy route, you’ll work on live briefs from actual companies, bridging classroom learning with real business decision-making.

  • Research and analysis opportunities: The report-based option lets you dig into real data and literature, helping you develop strong analytical, critical thinking, and research skills.

  • Careers support and employer connections: The University of Dundee Careers Service offers networking events, coaching, workshops, and internship opportunities to help you transition smoothly into the workforce.
