International Business (Professional Practice) MSc

18 Months On Campus Masters Program

University of Huddersfield

Program Overview

The International Business (Professional Practice) MSc is designed for students who want to truly understand how global companies operate — and gain real experience while doing it. It blends international business theory with a valuable six-month industry placement, making it ideal for anyone aiming to work in multinational organisations or build a career with an international focus.

Curriculum Structure

Taught Modules

In the early part of the course, you’ll explore the foundations of global business through modules like The Context of International Business, where you look at how politics, economics, culture, and law shape decisions in global markets. You’ll then move into The Strategy of International Business, which helps you understand how multinational companies make big strategic moves — from expansion to competition.
You’ll also take The Global Professional, a module that builds your cross-cultural communication and leadership skills, helping you become confident and adaptable in international workplaces.

As you progress, you can tailor the degree with optional modules. If you’re interested in finance, International Finance helps you understand currency risks, capital decisions, and financial strategy in global firms. If you're curious and innovative, The Curious Mindset encourages creative problem-solving and entrepreneurial thinking. Or, if you want to strengthen your people-management abilities, modules like Reward Management or Leading, Managing and Developing People help you develop leadership and HR strategy skills.

Towards the end, you’ll complete your Final Project — choosing a research project, consultancy project, or entrepreneurship project — allowing you to specialise in the direction that suits your future plans.

Professional Practice (Placement)

After your taught modules, you’ll gain valuable industry experience through a six-month professional practice placement. This is where you apply what you’ve learned, build confidence, and develop the practical skills employers look for in international business roles.

Focus areas:
“Global business strategy, cross-cultural leadership, professional practice, sustainable and ethical business, international operations.”

Learning outcomes:
“You’ll graduate with a strategic understanding of international markets, stronger leadership and analytical skills, cultural awareness, and hands-on experience gained through your placement and final project.”
