The MSc International Business and Management at The University of Manchester is designed to help you understand how global companies operate, compete and grow in fast-changing international markets. It’s perfect for students who want a career that crosses borders — whether that’s leading international teams, shaping strategy for multinationals, or building expertise in global business trends.
Curriculum Structure
Semester 1
Your year begins with four core modules that build the foundations of global management. You’ll develop strong analytical skills through Analytics and Research Skills for International Business, learn how different countries shape business through Comparative Business and Management, and explore how multinational companies make major decisions in International Business Strategy. You’ll also dive into emerging global topics — from innovation to sustainability — in Frontier Topics in International Business and Management.
Semester 2
In the second semester, you tailor the course to your interests by choosing four electives. Whether you’re excited by international marketing, global finance, sustainability, innovation or cross-cultural leadership, there’s a module that fits your goals. Options like International Business Finance, Marketing Issues in International Business, Managing Across Cultures, and Responsible Business in a Global Environment let you shape your own global business pathway.
Summer / Dissertation
You’ll finish the degree by completing a dissertation on a topic you genuinely care about — maybe analysing a real multinational corporation, exploring cultural impacts on management, or researching global strategy or sustainability. It’s your chance to showcase what you’ve learned and build a strong academic piece you can talk about in interviews.
Focus Areas
Global strategy, cross-border management, sustainability, research analytics, innovation, intercultural leadership
Learning Outcomes
You’ll graduate with the ability to think strategically in an international context, understand how global markets influence business decisions, apply research skills to real-world problems, and communicate confidently across cultures.

Delivered by Alliance Manchester Business School, one of the few business schools in the world with triple accreditation (AMBA, AACSB, EQUIS) — a gold standard recognised by employers everywhere.
Reputation (Employability Rankings)
AMBS consistently ranks among the UK’s top business schools, and the MSc appears strongly in the QS Business Masters Rankings. Graduates are hired by companies like KPMG, Deloitte, Huawei, Mercedes-Benz, Bloomberg, and many other international employers.
One of the best parts of this MSc is how much real-world experience you gain while you study. Instead of just learning global business theories, you actually get to apply them — working with external organisations, collaborating in diverse teams, and exploring how international companies operate on the ground. You’ll also have access to Manchester’s world-class business facilities, industry connections, and specialist research centres that help you build genuine professional confidence. Here’s how that hands-on learning comes to life:
You’ll have the chance to work on a client-facing project with an external organisation, where you and your group tackle a real business problem — a fantastic way to build experience that employers truly value (AMBS Masters Brochure, University of Manchester).
If you’re interested in research, you can choose the 10,000-word dissertation, giving you the freedom to dive deep into a global business issue that matters to you.
Many students benefit from company visits and sessions with industry professionals, offering real insights into how international firms think and operate.
You can even broaden your global exposure through an international exchange in Semester 2, studying at one of AMBS’s partner universities abroad.
Throughout these experiences, the Postgraduate Careers Service supports you with project applications, interview preparation, and career planning — helping you move confidently into international roles.
If you’re curious about entrepreneurship, the Masood Entrepreneurship Centre provides resources, mentoring, and inspiration for students interested in starting or exploring new ventures.
As part of the university, you’ll have access to research centres, specialist databases, and the extensive University of Manchester Library, giving you the digital tools and academic resources needed for high-quality coursework and project work.
Graduates from the MSc International Business and Management go on to exciting international careers, often stepping into roles where they guide strategy, support global expansion, or help companies navigate new markets. Many move into positions such as management consultant, international business analyst, business development manager, or global operations specialist, reflecting the strong practical and analytical training the programme provides. And because this degree is backed by a world-renowned business school, employers tend to take notice very quickly:
The dedicated Postgraduate Careers Service supports you from day one with personalised coaching, CV guidance, interview preparation, employer networking events, and direct access to global recruiters.
Graduates have been hired by top employers including Deloitte, KPMG, Bloomberg, Mercedes-Benz, Huawei, Shell, and other multinational companies linked to AMBS’s strong industry engagement.
AMBS’s triple accreditation (AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS) gives your qualification long-term global value — employers worldwide recognise it as a mark of high-quality business education.
The Business School’s close relationships with industry bring regular employer presentations, career fairs, and company-led workshops straight to campus, helping you build real connections.
You’ll also join a powerful global alumni network, with more than 60,000 AMBS graduates across 176 countries — a huge advantage when looking for mentorship, internships, or job leads.
