MSc International Business

12 Months On Campus Masters Program

University of Reading

Program Overview

Henley’s MSc International Business is designed for students who want to understand how global companies really work — from strategy to trade to cross-border management. It’s a great fit if you see yourself building a career that spans countries, markets and cultures, and you want a degree that gives you both big-picture insight and practical global business skills.

Curriculum structure

Year of Study (Full-Time MSc)
You’ll start the year by building a strong foundation in how international markets operate. In International Business and the World Economy (MMM143), you’ll explore why companies expand abroad, how global value chains function, and how government policies affect world trade. At the same time, International Strategic Management (MMM001) and Managing Across Borders (MMM172) help you understand how companies plan, compete and operate across different countries.

As you move through the programme, you’ll dive deeper into how global companies evolve and make decisions. Through The Evolution of Multinational Enterprises (MMM173), you’ll look at how traditional and digital multinationals grow, adapt and shape the world economy. You’ll also study International Business Environment (MMM071) to understand how politics, institutions, technology and geography influence business opportunities worldwide. Optional modules like Global Marketing Management (MMM006) or International Human Resource Management (MMM081) allow you to tailor the degree toward the areas you’re most excited about.

Toward the end of your degree, you’ll pull everything together through the International Business Project (MMM187) or the Work Placement and Project (MMM175). This is where you get hands-on experience — either by working directly with a company or by completing a real-world consultancy-style project that strengthens your global career profile.

Focus areas: “International trade & global strategy, multinational enterprise behaviour, global economic environment, cross-border management, global marketing or HR, applied business project/placement.”

Learning outcomes: “Gain the ability to evaluate global markets, understand how multinational companies operate, design effective international strategies, manage cross-cultural teams, and apply your skills through a practical business project or industry placement.”

Professional alignment (accreditation): Delivered by Henley Business School, part of the University of Reading — an institution holding major international accreditations including AACSB and EQUIS (as stated on the official programme page).

Reputation (employability rankings): Henley is ranked 12th globally for International Trade (QS 2025), and graduates from this programme show strong outcomes — with 84% employed or in further study within a year and an average starting salary of around £35,160, according to the official course page.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

At Henley, you don’t just sit through lectures — you put business theory into real-life context, practise working with others, and build skills you'll actually use on the job. The school combines expert teaching with opportunities to work in groups, tackle real-world business problems, and grow your global network. The campus, its libraries, and career support infrastructure all exist to help you succeed — not just academically, but also professionally.

Here’s what that looks like in practice:

  • International Applied Challenge (virtual or travel-based) — through the module International Applied Challenge (MMM156), you and a group of classmates may visit (or virtually explore) a foreign country, institutions or business communities, to examine real sustainability or management issues. It’s a chance to see how international business works on the ground, not just in theory.

  • Work Placement and Project (Summer Internship/Placement) — with Work Placement and Project (MMM175), you get a 1–3 month placement (typically in summer) at an external organisation related to international business. That’s your opportunity to try out business in a workplace environment — build experience, understand company culture, and practise professional skills.

  • Capstone Business Project — the module International Business Project (MMM187) lets you work on a contemporary global business problem: applying what you have learned, doing analysis, possibly giving recommendations — much like a consultancy assignment.

  • Access to a fully stocked Business Library & Digital Resources — through the Henley Business School Library and the central university library, you have access to specialist publications, journals, market reports, electronic databases (like Capital IQ Pro, Datastream, ABI/Inform, and others). This supports coursework, research, project work, and gives you resources similar to what professionals use in business and consulting.

  • Modern Campus Facilities & Collaborative Spaces — Henley’s building includes a 250-seat lecture theatre, seminar rooms, dedicated research and group study spaces, as well as common areas for informal discussion and networking. This setup supports workshops, group work, networking events with employers, and study in a comfortable, professional environment.

  • Boosting Communication & Professional Skills — alongside your main studies, you can take a free non-credit module via the school’s language institute — International Study and Language Institute (ISLI) — to improve business-level English, presentation and writing skills. This is valuable if you aim for careers involving international teams, reports, or global clients.

  • Career Support & Employer Connections — even while you study, the school’s careers team gives you access to one-to-one guidance, CV & interview prep, employer networking events, and support for up to four years after graduation — helping turn academic experience into real employability.

Progression & Future Opportunities

Graduates of Henley’s MSc International Business step into careers that genuinely span borders — whether that’s analysing global markets, helping companies expand internationally, or working with multinational teams on strategy and operations. Many go into roles like international business analyst, management consultant, global strategy associate, or business development manager, supported by the strong reputation of Henley’s triple-accredited business school. And because the programme blends global insight with hands-on experience, students graduate feeling confident, employable, and ready for international roles.

With all of this in mind, here’s what strengthens your future career prospects:

  • Dedicated career support that stays with you: Henley’s Careers & Professional Development team works closely with master’s students — offering personalised coaching, CV and interview preparation, employer events, and tailored career planning. Even after you graduate, you continue to receive professional support for up to four years, which is a huge advantage early in your career.

  • Impressive graduate results: Recent data shows that 84% of International Business graduates were in employment or further study within a year, and the average starting salary was around £35,160, demonstrating strong employability outcomes from the programme.

  • Access to a wide network of employers: Henley master’s graduates move into sectors such as management, consulting, digital business, operations, and international trade. Many land roles with well-known companies thanks to the school’s strong employer connections and industry-facing activities.

  • A truly global network: Henley’s international alumni community opens doors worldwide. Whether you want to work in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, or beyond, the school’s global recognition and connections make it easier to pursue international roles.

  • Long-term value through triple accreditation: As part of Henley Business School, your degree is backed by prestigious AACSB and EQUIS accreditations — the kind employers around the world look for. This adds lasting credibility to your qualification throughout your career.

Further Academic Progression:

If you decide to continue your academic journey after the MSc, Henley provides a strong pathway into PhD study in International Business or Management, thanks to its research-driven curriculum and strong academic foundations. You could also progress into more specialised postgraduate degrees at the University of Reading — such as advanced study in global finance, strategy, or international trade — depending on your long-term goals.
