1 Year On Campus Masters Program

Robert Gordon University

Program Overview

RGU’s MSc Digital Marketing is designed to get you career-ready for today’s fast-moving digital world. It’s perfect if you’re aiming to build real expertise in online campaigns, content creation, analytics, and digital strategy — whether you’re starting fresh or looking to level up your marketing skills.

Curriculum Structure

First phase
You begin by building a strong creative and technical foundation. Through modules like Digital Production Tools and Techniques, you learn how to design web pages, create visuals, produce multimedia content, and work with the core tools digital marketers use every day. Alongside this, Digital Marketing Strategy shows you how to plan, structure, and deliver campaigns that genuinely support business goals.

Middle phase
Next, you move into modules such as Digital Public Relations and Methods, Metrics and Analytics, where you learn how brands communicate online and how to interpret real performance data. This stage helps you understand how to manage digital PR, read campaign metrics, and optimise activity using insights from analytics platforms.

Final phase
Your final project is your chance to bring everything together. You can choose a dissertation or a practical industry-focused project, allowing you to tackle a real business challenge or create a full digital campaign — something that becomes a strong portfolio piece for future employers.

Focus areas: “digital content creation, social media and PR, analytics and metrics, SEO/SEM, digital campaign planning, data-driven strategy”
Learning outcomes: “Develop the ability to build end-to-end digital strategies, produce professional digital content, manage online communications, analyse performance data, and deliver client-ready digital marketing solutions.”
Professional alignment (accreditation): Accredited by the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM) and offered in partnership with the Digital Marketing Institute (DMI), giving you globally recognised digital marketing credentials.
Reputation (employability rankings): Delivered by RGU’s industry-connected Aberdeen Business School, with strong project-based learning that prepares graduates for roles such as Digital Marketing Manager, Social Media Manager, SEO Specialist, Digital Strategist and more.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

At RGU, the MSc Digital Marketing is designed to help you truly live the role of a digital marketer. Instead of only learning concepts, you’ll actually create campaigns, experiment with digital tools, and work on real business challenges from day one. It’s a very hands-on experience, and by the time you graduate, you’ll have a portfolio that feels like real industry work — because it is.

And once you're comfortable with the foundations, the course gradually pushes you into deeper, more creative and analytical projects, all supported by RGU’s modern facilities and industry-connected teaching team. Here’s how that experience comes to life:

  • You’ll work on live projects with real clients, producing website audits, content assets, SEO recommendations and full campaign strategies — building experience that employers genuinely look for.

  • You’ll create digital media and web content, learning practical skills like web design, multimedia production and content creation during the early stages of the course.

  • You’ll collaborate on social media and analytics projects, using marketing metrics and digital tools to plan, run and evaluate campaigns as part of a team.

  • Your final project can be a real marketing campaign, not just a written dissertation — perfect if you want something directly portfolio-ready.

  • You may also choose to undertake a short industry placement, giving you first-hand work experience and helping you make valuable professional connections.

  • You’ll have access to Aberdeen Business School’s digital learning spaces, including labs, collaboration areas and resources that support hands-on digital work throughout the course.

This blend of real-world projects, creative production and optional professional experience means you won’t just understand digital marketing — you’ll graduate already feeling like a digital marketer.
