Robert Gordon University History

The University of Robert Gordon, commonly known as RGU, is a public university in Aberdeen, Scotland. It was founded in the 18th century by Robert Gordon, a prosperous Aberdeen merchant, and various institutions providing adult education and technical education in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and it became a university in 1992.

Robert Gordon University Programs, Courses and Schools

The university's academic activities are divided into 11 schools. Each school is run by a school head and is divided into departments. One of four schools in the Faculty of Design and Technology is the School of Computing Science and Digital Media. The research areas of the school include information recovery and interaction, computer science education, knowledge-based systems, computer intelligence, graphics and imaging, and computer and engineering mathematics. RGU:Union operates a student media program with RGU:RadioThe student radio station, called RGU: Radio, broadcasts live from a campus studio, running a number of music - to - current shows. Broadcasts are streamed and online podcasts are regularly posted.

Robert Gordon University Campuses

In Aberdeen, in the southwestern suburbs of Garthdee, RGU operates a single campus. All academic and administrative departments have been located in Garthdee since August 2017. The Garthdee campus is the main campus of the university, where all academic departments are located and where teaching and research is conducted. The campus is situated in the outskirts of the city's parkland and is known for its modern architecture. The Principal's Office is based on the main Garthdee campus at Garthdee House, but there are many other administrative departments and staff based at the Schoolhill Administration Building in downtown. The residence halls comprise two buildings on the Garthdee Campus ; the Tower Square and the Round Tower.

Robert Gordon University Achievements

In its 2012 University Guide, the Sunday Times awarded RGU the 2012 title of Best Modern University in the UK. For each of the preceding ten years, Oxford Brookes University had previously won the title. RGU received the 2012 award, partly because of the quality ratings of teaching and research, but also because of its record of employment, which was judged to be the best of any UK university. The 2013 Times Good University Guide also named RGU as the UK's Best Modern University.

Notable alumni include Gordon Duthie (born 1987), musician, singer/songwriter. Ola Gorie, jewellery designer. Maxwell Hutchinson, architect and broadcaster, guitarist with Lene Lovich. Eilidh Middleton, an equestrian competitor. Hannah Miley, swimmer and Olympian.
