Program Overview

The MSc Data Science at UWE Bristol is an industry-driven course that equips students to design and implement data science projects addressing real-world business and societal challenges.

The program covers the complete data science pipeline, including data management, analytics, artificial intelligence, and ethical considerations. Students gain practical experience working on live projects, often in collaboration with their workplace or UWE’s industrial partners.

  • The program is accredited by The Chartered Institute for IT (BCS), ensuring professional recognition.

Course Overview:

  • Core: Data Management Fundamentals, Interdisciplinary Group Project, Programming for Data Science, Statistical Inference, CSCT Masters Project.

  • Optional (choose 2): Advanced Statistics, Big Data, Business Intelligence and Data Visualisation, Cloud Computing, Data and Information Governance, Designing the User Experience, Knowledge Management, Linked, Open Data and the Internet of Things, Machine Learning and Predictive Analytics, Social Media and Web Science.

Teaching: Delivered through lectures, hands-on labs, group work, and live data science projects using real datasets.

Assessment: Assessed through practical coursework, vivas, presentations, portfolios, and optional module-dependent exams.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

  • Hands-on learning with live data science projects using real industry datasets.

  • Paid projects for external clients through UWE’s enterprise studio network.
