MSc MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

The course will develop your understanding of the roles of research, design, analysis and optimisation in advanced engineering careers. You will gain the knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology and gain the appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate and maintain engineering products, processes, systems and services.Specialist modules will allow you to pursue areas of particular interest to you and may include: study of advanced mechanical engineering topics such as fluid flow, aerodynamics, tensor stress, and parametric analysis; study of advanced mechanical engineering systems such as intermittent combustion or continuous combustion engines, and hypersonic propulsion; study of finite element modelling theory and application of mechanical engineering software analysis packages such as MATLAB or ANSYS; study of advanced applications of mathematical solutions for engineering problems such as transfer function approaches, state space methodology and stability analyses; application of optimisation approaches to the design of mechanical engineering systems; and a mechanical engineering design project.
