Business Administration, MBA

1 Year On Campus Masters Program

Swansea University

Program Overview

Swansea University’s MBA is designed for people who want to grow as leaders who can make a real difference — not just in business performance, but in society too. It’s perfect if you already have professional experience and you’re ready to step into a bigger, more impactful role, whether that’s in a company, government organisation, or the non-profit world.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1 (Full-Time)

Across this intensive year, you’ll unpack what truly drives an organisation through modules like Exploring Organisational Purpose and get hands-on with real strategic challenges in Navigating Innovation and Change. You’ll also build solid financial confidence with Understanding Finance, sharpen your quantitative thinking in Data Analysis and Decision-Making, and strengthen your leadership style through Leading with Integrity and Creating Sustainable Value.
A major part of the year is the Research in Action module, where you take everything you’ve learned and apply it to a real business problem, giving you practical insight that directly supports your career goals.

Years 1–2 (Part-Time)

The part-time route gives you flexibility while covering the same core content. In your first year, you'll explore how organisations work through Exploring Organisational Purpose: Fundamentals, begin your long-term business project in Research in Action (Part 1), and learn how companies adapt and grow in Navigating Innovation and Change: Fundamentals.
In the second year, you dive deeper into leadership with Leading with Integrity, understand long-term impact through Creating Sustainable Value, complete Research in Action (Part 2), and develop strong analytical skills in Data Analysis and Decision-Making.

Focus Areas

Sustainable leadership, innovation and organisational change, ethical decision-making, data-driven strategy, and responsible value creation.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the MBA, you’ll be able to think critically, lead with confidence and integrity, understand financial and data-based decisions, guide organisations through change, and design strategies that balance commercial success with positive societal impact.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation)

Swansea’s School of Management is accredited by AACSB International, a global benchmark of excellence.
MBA graduates are also eligible for the CMI Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership, which can strengthen your professional profile even further.

Reputation & Employability

Swansea’s Business & Management Studies is ranked 83rd globally in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, giving your qualification strong international recognition.
The MBA prepares you for senior roles such as Managing Director, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Business Consultant, or even launching your own venture.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

One of the strengths of Swansea’s MBA is how practical it feels from day one. You’re not just sitting in lectures — you’re constantly applying ideas to real organisations, real challenges, and your own professional experiences. Teaching takes place on the modern Bay Campus, so you’ll have bright study spaces, computer labs, breakout rooms, and a lively community around you. And because the MBA brings together people from different industries, a lot of your learning happens through collaboration, problem-solving, and shared insight.

All of this leads naturally into the programme’s hands-on elements, which give you real confidence in applying what you learn:

  • Real client project: You’ll take on a genuine organisational problem and work on a project for a client, producing professional recommendations they can actually use.

  • Practical assessments: Expect presentations, a client-facing report, and reflective work — all designed to mirror the kind of communication senior managers do.

  • Collaborative learning: You’ll co-create ideas with academics, business leaders, and classmates, drawing on everyone’s professional experience.

  • Career support and internship access: Through the Swansea Employability Academy, you can access paid short-term internships, mentoring, networking events, and tailored career coaching.

  • Bay Campus facilities: You’ll study in the School of Management’s dedicated building, with access to PC labs, group-working rooms, quiet study spaces, and support services — everything you need for digital and team-based work.

Progression & Future Opportunities

Finishing Swansea’s MBA sets you up for roles where you can genuinely shape how organisations work and make decisions. Many graduates move into senior positions such as Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Managing Director, Business Consultant, or even start their own ventures. The programme strengthens your leadership confidence, sharpens your strategic thinking, and helps you step into roles that have real impact — both commercially and socially.

And your future is supported every step of the way through Swansea’s dedicated services and industry connections:

  • Specialist careers support: The School of Management has its own employability team that works directly with MBA students — offering tailored guidance, CV and LinkedIn coaching, networking advice, mentoring, and help preparing for senior-level applications.

  • Internship and work experience opportunities: Through the Swansea Employability Academy, you get access to paid short-term internships, career workshops, employer events, and practical support in finding experience that strengthens your profile.

  • Long-term alumni support: Even after you graduate, Swansea continues to offer career advice, employability events, and professional development opportunities.

  • Industry-linked learning: Your MBA includes working on a real organisational problem for a client, giving you hands-on exposure to business challenges and the chance to build professional connections.

  • Accreditation that stays valuable: You’ll graduate with eligibility for the CMI Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management & Leadership, a powerful credential for leadership and senior management roles.

  • Strong outcomes focus: The programme is built around sustainability, innovation, and responsible leadership — qualities increasingly in demand among employers looking for managers who can guide organisations through change.

Further Academic Progression:
If you want to continue studying at a higher level, Swansea offers a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) — a research-driven, practice-focused qualification designed for senior professionals who want to contribute new insights to business and management while staying connected to industry.
