Program Overview

The Oxford MPP is an intensive one-year degree designed for current and future leaders committed to public service. It suits students from diverse academic and professional backgrounds who want to develop the skills to design, evaluate, and deliver effective public policy, combining academic knowledge with practitioner-led insights.


Curriculum Structure

Induction Period

The course begins with a carefully planned induction programme that introduces students to the fundamentals of policy-making. This stage helps you understand how to derive the greatest benefit from the MPP experience, while building early connections with peers and faculty.

Term 1

You’ll study core modules in public policy analysis, economics, and institutions of governance, delivered through lectures, seminars, and case studies. The emphasis is on building foundational knowledge and analytical skills, supported by workshops and group learning.

Term 2

The second term deepens your expertise with specialist modules taught by academics and policy practitioners, focusing on complex policy challenges. You’ll engage in case studies and simulations, learning to apply theory to real-world scenarios while collaborating with peers in study groups.

Term 3

In the final term, you’ll undertake the Policy Report Placement, applying your skills in a real public policy context. This experiential project allows you to work with external organisations, producing a professional-level report that demonstrates your ability to translate academic learning into practice.
