22 Months On Campus Masters Program
LSE’s MSc Economics (Two-Year Programme) is designed for students with a solid quantitative background but limited formal economics training. Year 1 builds essential foundations in economic theory and methods, while Year 2 delivers the full MSc Economics curriculum, preparing students for careers or doctoral study.
Curriculum Structure
Year 1 – Foundational Training
In the first year, students develop core competencies in economic reasoning and quantitative analysis. Modules such as Microeconomic Principles, Macroeconomic Principles, and Quantitative Methods introduce key concepts in consumer theory, market dynamics, and statistical modelling. The Introductory Course in Mathematics and Statistics in August ensures readiness for graduate-level coursework.
Year 2 – Advanced MSc Economics
Students transition into the standard MSc Economics curriculum, joining peers in advanced modules like Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Econometrics. These courses cover game theory, dynamic macro models, and time-series analysis. The year concludes with a Research Paper in Economics, where students apply theoretical and empirical tools to a topic of their choice.
Focus areas
Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Quantitative Methods, Economic Policy
Learning outcomes
Students will master core economic theory, apply econometric techniques to real-world data, and develop the analytical skills needed for policy, research, or doctoral study.
Professional alignment (accreditation)
Delivered by LSE’s globally recognised Department of Economics, the program is not professionally accredited but is highly respected by employers and academic institutions worldwide.
Reputation (employability rankings)
LSE ranks #6 globally for Economics & Econometrics (QS World University Rankings 2025) and consistently leads UK graduate employability rankings in economics.
Students gain hands-on experience through rigorous quantitative training, collaborative coursework, and independent research. The program is structured to build practical skills from the ground up, starting with foundational methods and progressing to advanced econometric analysis and policy evaluation. LSE’s facilities, software, and research centres provide a rich environment for applied learning and academic exploration.
