Economics, Banking and Finance MSc

1 Year On Campus Masters Program

Nottingham Trent University

Program Overview

This MSc blends rigorous economic analysis with deep insight into banking and financial systems, preparing you to tackle global challenges like financial stability, regulation, and sustainable development. It’s ideal for students with a background in economics, finance, or quantitative disciplines who want to apply advanced tools to real-world decision-making in a globalised economy.

Curriculum Structure

Semester 1
You’ll begin by mastering the fundamentals of economic theory and quantitative analysis. Principles of Economics introduces micro and macro frameworks, focusing on how information and policy shape behaviour. In Using Quantitative Data in Economic Analysis, you’ll learn econometric modelling and hypothesis testing using real-world data. Economics of Banking and Finance explores why financial institutions exist, how they operate, and how individual behaviour links to policy outcomes.

Semester 2
This semester focuses on global financial systems and policy-making. Financial Systems in the Global Economy examines market failures, crises, and policy responses. Financial Regulation, Supervision and Monetary Policy dives into global regulatory frameworks and their impact on financial markets. You’ll also choose between Risk Management or Derivatives Markets, applying theory to hedging techniques and financial risk analysis.

Semester 3
You’ll complete an Applied Research Project, choosing between academic research or a consultancy-style brief. This capstone integrates your learning and allows you to investigate a real-world issue in economics, banking, or finance. You’ll use industry-standard software, collaborate with peers, and produce a professional-grade report tailored to your career goals.
