This MSc is designed for students with a background in economics who want to deepen their expertise in theory, quantitative methods, and applied research. You’ll explore global economic challenges through advanced modules in macroeconomics, microeconomics, econometrics, and development — all while gaining the digital and analytical skills needed for a career in government, finance, or academia.
Curriculum Structure
Year 1 (Full-Time)
You’ll begin with core modules that build your theoretical and analytical foundation. Topics in Microeconomics explores market efficiency, asymmetric information, and the role of government, while Topics in Macroeconomic Theory covers growth models, consumption dynamics, and real-business-cycle frameworks. Applied Economic Issues and Sustainable Development connect theory to global challenges like inequality and climate change.
Quantitative skills are developed through Econometrics for Economics and Finance and Applied Econometrics, where you’ll use real-world data and software to model economic behaviour. You’ll also study International Macroeconomics and Finance, applying econometric tools to open-economy models and financial systems. Behavioural Economics introduces cognitive biases and heuristics, challenging traditional assumptions of rationality.
The year culminates in a Dissertation and Research Design module, where you’ll work with a faculty supervisor to investigate a topic of your choice using advanced econometric techniques and original data analysis.
