MSc International Management

1 Year On Campus Masters Program

The University of Sheffield

Program Overview

This MSc prepares you to navigate the complexities of running organisations in a rapidly globalising economy — combining core business and management skills with a global, cross-cultural perspective. It’s ideal if you want to lead international teams, work in multinational firms, or manage business operations across borders.

Curriculum Structure

Over the one-year full-time programme, you’ll learn through a mixture of core and elective modules that build the foundations of international business and develop strategic management skills:

  • In the early phase, you’ll cover core concepts of international business operations, global strategy, and cross-cultural management, helping you understand how companies operate in both developed and emerging markets. (e.g. through modules such as International Management Competencies, International Strategy and Sustainability, Multinational Enterprises – Navigating Global Challenges

  • As you progress, you have the option to tailor the course to your interests — whether that’s global marketing, entrepreneurship, corporate strategy, or operations in multicultural settings — equipping you to respond to modern business challenges.

  • At the end of the course, you can do a company-based dissertation / project working with an external organisation — giving you real-world business experience and a chance to apply your learning practically.

Focus areas: “International Business Management, Global Strategy & Sustainability, Cross-Cultural Leadership, Multinational Enterprises, Global Marketing & Trade”

Learning outcomes: “Ability to plan and lead business operations in international markets; cross-cultural management competence; strategic thinking for global business environments; analytical and research skills for business decision-making.”

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

Students in the MSc International Management programme at Sheffield don’t just learn theory — there are opportunities to apply knowledge in practical, real-world contexts, especially via a company-based dissertation/project or other applied work in collaboration with external organisations.

Here are the major practical tools and experiences you get —

  • You can choose a company-based dissertation instead of a purely academic dissertation. That means you carry out a research/consultancy project with an external organisation, tackling real business issues.

  • The programme uses a mix of interactive seminars, group work, guest lectures, digital learning and simulations, along with traditional lectures — meaning you’ll gain practical business-analysis, cross-cultural teamwork, and strategic thinking skills.

  • Through the university’s broader support system (its Employability / Careers Hub), you have access to internship / summer-internship opportunities, including at SMEs and charities via the “SME Summer Internship Programme.”

  • The school also offers career-development support, workshops, and employability training, which helps students translate academic learning into workplace-ready skills.

Progression & Future Opportunities

Graduates of this MSc typically step into roles where they manage international operations, lead diverse teams, or work in strategic/business-development capacities. Many end up as entry-level or junior managers in multinational companies, consultants, business analysts, or global operations specialists. Because the programme combines rigorous management theory with real-world business exposure (company-based project option, career-support, etc.), you’d emerge ready to take on global business challenges with confidence.

How Sheffield Supports These Outcomes
