MSc Global Governance and Ethics

1 Year On Campus Masters Program

University College London

Program Overview

This MSc equips students to critically analyse global institutions, justice, and governance processes in today’s rapidly changing geopolitical, economic, and ecological context. It suits graduates interested in careers in international organisations, government, NGOs, or academia, offering both normative and empirical approaches to global governance and ethics.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1 (Full-time, one year only)

In the first term, you’ll take compulsory modules such as Global Ethics and Global Governance, which provide a foundation in the study of international institutions and the ethical challenges they raise. Alongside these, you’ll complete methods training in both qualitative and quantitative approaches — for example, Qualitative Methods: Case Studies and Comparative Analysis and Causal Inference. These courses ensure you can critically evaluate evidence and conduct independent research.

In the second term, you’ll personalise your studies with optional modules such as International Political Economy, Global Security Policy, or Qualitative Methods: Using Texts, Transcripts and Images. This stage allows you to explore specific themes like conflict, climate politics, or global health, while sharpening your methodological skills.

The year culminates in a dissertation, where you apply your theoretical and empirical training to an original research project under supervision, demonstrating your ability to analyse global governance and ethical issues in depth.
