1 Year On Campus Masters Program

University College London

Program Overview

This MSc is designed for students who want to understand how public policy is formulated, analysed, and implemented across different sectors. It suits graduates aiming for careers in government, NGOs, consultancy, or research, offering rigorous training in political science, economics, law, and public management.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1 (Full-time, one year only)

In the first term, you’ll build a strong foundation with core modules such as Theories and Actors of the Policy Process, Public Policy Economics and Analysis, and Law and Regulation I. These courses introduce you to the key actors, institutions, and economic principles that shape policy-making, while also exploring the legal frameworks that underpin governance.

In the second term, you’ll deepen your expertise with methods training in modules like Qualitative Methods: Case Studies and Comparative Analysis, Causal Inference, or Introduction to Quantitative Methods. Alongside these, you’ll select optional modules such as Public Management: Theories and Innovations, Policy Implementation, or Agenda Setting and Public Policy, tailoring your studies to your interests.

The year culminates in a Dissertation or Policy Proposal Project, where you conduct independent research or design a reform proposal, applying methodological training to a substantive policy challenge. This project demonstrates your ability to bridge theory and practice in public policy.
