Curriculum Structure
Year 1 (Full-Time)
In your first year, you will build a strong foundation in research and political economy theory. Core units such as Research Design and Skills and Philosophy of Politics Research guide you in developing meaningful research projects, while Theoretical Approaches to Political Economy introduces diverse frameworks to understand contemporary economic and political challenges. Alongside these, Qualitative Research Methods and Introduction to Quantitative Methods equip you with essential analytical skills, whether you plan to pursue a PhD or a research-focused career.
The curriculum also allows you to choose two optional units linked to one of four pathways, such as The Political Economy of Global Business or Poverty, Inequality and Government Policy in Less Developed Countries, ensuring your studies align with your interests and career goals.
Dissertation (Capstone Project)
A key component of the program is a 12,000–15,000-word dissertation. You will select a topic and methodology with academic supervision, giving you the chance to conduct independent, original research and showcase your ability to contribute to the field of political economy.
