Psychology Conversion MSc

1 Years On Campus Masters Program

Middlesex University London

Program Overview

The MSc Psychology (Conversion) at Middlesex University prepares graduates from non-psychology backgrounds for a professional career in psychology, providing the required Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS). Students study a full range of psychological domains and research methodologies, enabling them to design, run, and interpret experiments and projects.

Curriculum Structure:
Students spend the year building a strong theoretical and practical foundation. In the Brain, Body & Mind module, they explore cognitive and biological psychology, including psychophysiology experiments that examine nervous system functions alongside behaviour and individual differences. The Research & Issues in Applied Psychology module develops critical thinking about ethics, research design, and contemporary debates in psychology. They also study Social & Developmental Psychology, combining social cognition with lifespan development. Through Statistical Literacy for Psychological Science and Qualitative Psychology in Practice, students master both quantitative data analysis and qualitative research design. Their learning culminates in a Research: Practice & Reporting project, a 60-credit dissertation where they conduct and present independent psychology research.

Focus areas:
“experimental psychology; biological/cognitive psychology; social & developmental psychology; quantitative & qualitative research; professional research practice”

Learning outcomes:
Graduates will be able to evaluate major psychological theories, conduct both qualitative and quantitative research independently, analyse data using statistical software, design experiments, and report findings in a professional, academic format.

Professional alignment (accreditation):
The programme is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and satisfies the requirements for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC).
