1 Year On Campus Masters Program

University of Salford

Program Overview

The MSc by Research in Psychology at the University of Salford lets students carry out independent, supervisor-led psychological research in areas like cognition, neurodiversity, mental health, wellbeing, or policy. It suits those aiming for academic research careers, PhD training, or roles in industry where strong research skills are essential.

Curriculum structure:
Since this is a research degree, instead of discrete “years,” students spend the full duration (one or two years, depending on mode) designing and executing their own project under expert supervision. They receive tailored training in ethical research practice, data collection & analysis, and open and reproducible science. Their research is rooted in one of the School of Health & Society’s research groups, such as Applied Cognition, Neurodiversity, or Psychological Health & Wellbeing. At the end of the programme, students submit a thesis and defend it in an oral viva.

Focus areas:
“cognition; neurodiversity; mental health & wellbeing; policy & practice; open science; data ethics”
