Program Overview

The MSc Psychology (Conversion) at UWE Bristol allows graduates from non-psychology backgrounds to gain a professionally recognised psychology qualification and become eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the BPS. Students will study core psychological theories, research methods, and complete an applied dissertation.

Curriculum structure:

  • In their first (and only) year, students study Biological & Cognitive Neuropsychology, Developmental, Conceptual & Historical Themes in Psychology, and Individual Difference & Social Psychology, building a broad foundation across core psychological domains. Through Research Methods in Psychology, they learn quantitative and qualitative research design, data analysis, and how to use specialist software for lab-based work. In Experience-Based Learning, students apply theory to real-world contexts, engaging in practice-based learning, employability modules, and possibly placement-style work. 

  • Finally, they complete a Dissertation for Psychology (Conversion), conducting independent research and integrating their learning into an empirical project.
