The M.A.T in Secondary Education is for those who hold a bachelor’s and wish to become licensed in Illinois to teach students in grades 9-12 (or K-12 for World Language) in one of the following content areas: English, Biological Science, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences, and World Language.
Our program will provide you with the knowledge, experience, and skills to teach with confidence. You will gain a firm understanding of the theoretical and pedagogical foundations of secondary teaching, learn technology-enhanced and culturally responsive teaching practices, and have diverse, substantive field experiences that will prepare you to support student success.
Application A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution must be verified. Official transcripts. GPA: A minimum of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 TOEFL iBT: 80 or IELTS 6.5 overall, no sub-score lower than 6.0 List of 3 References, including name, title and contacto information, waived for applicants with a 3.0 or higher GPA NCE Graduate Admission Essay Faculty Review or interview may be required Applicants must pass the relevant Illinois state content test. Applicants with a foreign language concentration must pass the ACTFL foreign language oral proficiency exam (scores may not be older than two years).
