Program Overview

This 36-credit program is designed for students interested in entering the early childhood teaching profession who (1) hold undergraduate degrees in fields other than education OR who (2) hold undergraduate degrees and prior certification in Childhood Education/Grades 1--6. Course requirements cover educational foundations, development and learning processes, curriculum and pedagogy, assessment, and field applications relevant to children between birth and eight years. Students are required to participate in course-related field experiences, including two student teaching placements (for students without prior certification) OR a practicum (for students with prior certification). Students are eligible for NYS Initial Certification upon successful completion of required course work, passing the NYS required exams, and taking the NYS required seminars. Upon completion of all program coursework and requirements, students receive the MAT degree in Early Childhood Education/Birth-Grade 2.
