University of California Santa BarbaraThe Department of Classics offers a PhD program that combines in-depth study of ancient Greek and Latin languages, literature, history, and culture, together with research methods and professional training. The department invites applications from those who come to UCSB with either a B.A. or M.A. in Classics from another institution. The department also offers an Emphasis in Ancient History and an Emphasis in Literature and Theory. Successful completion of these degree programs demands a high degree of competency in both ancient Greek and Latin languages. Applicants to the program should show a minimum of four years training in these languages, with at least three years in the stronger language. Modern foreign languages for research will be required for degree(s).
