Program Overview

Biostatistics encompasses the study and development of statistical, mathematical, and computer methods applied to the biological and health sciences. The Department of Biostatistics and Data Science has a diverse array of areas in which faculty and students engage, including clinical trials, longitudinal analysis, survival analysis, missing data, stochastic processes, nonparametric statistics, time series, statistical genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, statistical learning, Big Data, Bayesian statistics, and others.

 The MS in Biostatistics provides training in research design, basic statistical theory, data analysis, computer applications, and statistical consultation. Graduates of the program are prepared to assume statistical posts in government, private health agencies, or health research programs. The program emphasizes fundamental statistical theory and methods and provides the basis for doctoral-level biostatistical studies.
