1 Year On Campus Masters Program
The MS in Biological Chemistry provides intensive graduate-level training in biochemistry, molecular biology and biomedical research. The one-year program offers two pathways: a Research Track featuring laboratory research and a written thesis, and a Course Track designed primarily for students preparing for medical, dental, veterinary or other professional programs.
Curriculum Structure
The program is completed over one year (two semesters) and requires a minimum of 29 credits, including cognate coursework and a written capstone project or research thesis.
First Semester:
Students establish advanced biochemistry foundations through courses such as Molecules of Life: Protein Structure, Function & Dynamics or Introductory Biochemistry, Critical Skills, Graduate Seminar and Research Responsibility & Ethics. Research-track students begin independent laboratory research, while course-track students undertake literature analysis.
Second Semester:
Students advance through Critical Analysis, Scientific Writing and Skills, Biological Chemistry Seminar Series and specialised electives such as Biology and Chemistry of Enzymes, Regulatory RNA and Control of Gene Expression and Enzyme Kinetics. Research-track students complete their thesis, while course-track students finish their written capstone project.
Focus Areas
Protein Biochemistry: Protein structure, function, dynamics and enzyme mechanisms.
Molecular Biology: Gene expression, molecular genetics and regulatory processes.
Structural Biology: Molecular structures and their relationship to biological functions.
Cell and Developmental Biology: Cellular mechanisms, development and disease processes.
Bioinformatics: Computational approaches to biological data and molecular research.
Neurobiology: Molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying nervous system function.
Learning Outcomes
Graduates develop advanced knowledge of biochemical processes, research design, laboratory investigation, critical analysis of scientific literature, scientific writing, experimental interpretation and professional research communication.
Professional Alignment (Accreditation)
The university does not specify a separate professional accreditation for this MS program.
