Program Overview

The Master in Cultural Policies constitutes the first master's degree in this academic field at the national level. Its general objective is to provide students with theoretical-methodological training and updated knowledge about the challenges and problems that public policies pose in the area of culture in Uruguay and in the region. Among its main programmatic contents, topics such as the conformation of this field of studies at national, regional and international level will be addressed; the historical evolution of cultural policies and cultural institutionality in Uruguay; the specificity of cultural policies in relation to public policies; the articulations and tensions between the State, the market and civil society in the implementation of cultural policies; the role of international organizations and their impact on the orientation of cultural policies at national and regional level; the economy of culture; cultural citizenship and cultural rights as a central issue for democratic institutionality; the territorial dimension of cultural policies; the imprint of the media, particularly the new digital technological revolution in cultural policies and the review of classical and contemporary debates in cultural theory
