University of the Republic Uruguay History
The University of the Republic Uruguay is a public university. It is the oldest, important and largest university in the country. It was established on 18 July 1849 in Montevideo. On 11 June 1833, the process of founding the country's public university began. The House of General Studies was formed, housing the departments of Latin, philosophy, mathematics, theology, and jurisprudence in 1836.

The University of the Republic Uruguay consists of 15 Schools, 7 Schools, and Institute; The University also has a law school. There are 85,905 undergraduate students and 6,351 postgraduate students (2012).
University of the Republic Uruguay Campuses
The University of the Republic Uruguay campus has its own hospital in Montevideo, Hospital de Clínicas “Dr. Manuel Quintela”. The University has opened schools in cities other than Montevideo. It's Regional Norte in Salto offers degrees in Architecture, Law, and Nursing. At the Casa Universitaria in Rivera, the Faculty of Sciences provides the Technicature in Management of Environmental Resources, which has a duration of two and a half years.
