Program Overview

The School of Biomedical Sciences is passionate about training and mentoring the next generation of biomedical scientists, and is part of a leading international university with a tradition of excellence in research and research training. Each year the school accepts 120 graduate research students into the departments of: Anatomy and Neuroscience, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Immunology, Pathology, Pharmacology and Physiology. Depending on the project and supervisors, students may be based at the Parkville campus in a department, in the Peter Doherty Institute, at Bio21, or at a range of affiliated institutions such as CSIRO or the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre located in the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre.

A four-year bachelor degree in a relevant discipline which includes a substantial research component equivalent to at least 25% of one year of full-time study and have achieved a minimum weighted average of 80% or (University of Melbourne) equivalent; or a masters degree in a relevant discipline which includes a substantial research component equivalent to at least 25% of one year of full-time study and achieved a minimum weighted average of 80% or (University of Melbourne) equivalent; a qualification and professional experience considered to be equivalent; a research proposal; and referee reports and the endorsement of a prospective supervisor, Test scores: TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, CAE
