Program Overview

Film and moving images are the dominant forms of contemporary visual culture. Their reach transcends territorial borders and disciplinary horizons, and they can influence our views and our understanding of the world in complex ways. Moving images ask us to continually re-examine, re-interpret, and re-evaluate both where and how we stand in the world individually and collectively. The doctoral program in Film and Moving Image Studies endeavors to train the next generation of moving image scholars. They provide them with the critical tools with which to revisit the past and map the future of one of the most vibrant fields in the fine arts and humanities.

A master's degree in related field, Statement of purpose (2-3 pages) indicating specific interest in the program and how it relates to long-term academic, personal and professional goals. Identify specific teaching and/or research interests., Copies of transcripts from post-secondary institutions attended, Scholarly writing sample, CV, Three Letters of Reference, TOEFL ibT of 85 with at least a score of 20 in each of the four components, IELTS of 6.5, PTE of 57 or higher and no part under 53, CAEL of 70, CAE/ CPE of 180
