The main objective of doing PhD degree is to become a competent researcher who can conduct independent research. This requires deep knowledge in a specific area, broader knowledge about the general area, the experience of working on a research problem, and the ability to effectively write and present scientific data. Many of the skills required will be acquired within the student s research group where the student will acquire and hone skills in experimental design, develop competence in technical skills and refine the ability to interpret scientific data in a logical and meaningful way, with consideration of previous published work and recent developments in the area.
