University of Regina

University of Regina was founded in 1911. It is a public research university situated in the Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Initially it started as a private denominational high school of the Methodist Church of Canada. In 1925, it began in an association with the University of Saskatchewan as a junior college, and in 1934, was disaffiliated by the Church and fully transferred to the university. In 1961, the university got its rights to provide degrees. In 1974, it became an autonomous university.

University History

In 1911 University of Regina was founded as a junior college in association with Methodist Church of Canada. In 1934, Regina College became a part of the University of Saskatchewan. As a junior college it offered accredited university courses in 1925. Till 1959, Regina College continued as a Junior College and later received full degree-granting status as a second campus of the University of Saskatchewan. In 1961, the upgradation process sped-up when the college was granted full-degree-granting status as the Regina Campus of the University of Saskatchewan and students who started completing degrees at Regina Campus were granted degrees of the University of Saskatchewan.

University infrastructure & services

Campus-

In 1965, University of Regina’s first convocation was held with the evolving sciences and arts programs. In 1966, the university’s new campus was started on Wascana Lake, to the southeast of the old campus. The old campus’ Girls Residence is now used by the Regina Conservatory of Music whereas the Normal School is now the university's Department of Education. The original design of Regina Campus and its initial buildings, is in a stark concrete modernist style, were by the architect Minoru Yamasaki, who constructed the original World Trade Center in New York. The University of Regina has two "Affiliated Colleges"- The Gabriel Dumont Institute and the Saskatchewan Polytechnic. The University of Regina offers courses through Cumberland College, Northlands College, North West Regional College, Great Plains College, Carlton Trail Regional College, Parkland College, and the South East Regional College.

Initial Study Permit

All University of Regina students need to have legal status in Canada, and you will need to present your status documents to get your student card. If this is your first time applying for a study permit, you can do it at the nearest Canadian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission. You can apply for your permit as soon as you receive your Offer of Admission from the University of Toronto and decide to accept. Because the permit legally entitles you to study in Canada, you will need it before you enter the country.

Temporary Resident Visa

Students from certain countries may also require an entry visa, also known as a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), to enter Canada. TRVs are issued by Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC).

CIC’s requirements may differ depending on your specific geographic region. For instance, some CIC offices require proof of English language proficiency in the form of a standardized test (such as TOEFL or IELTS). A medical examination and proof of funding may also be required.
