Program Overview

Territories are scientific objects of observation and analysis that interrelate in natural and sociocultural dimensions by generating hybrid concepts that overcome the current separations between nature and society. From these perspectives, the program aims to address territorial phenomena as fields in which economic dimensions, development concepts, knowledge and specific ways of inhabiting are interwoven. This complex approach provides the basis for innovation in analysis, theory building, and methodological exploration. First, the D_TES seeks to develop innovative analyzes based on interdisciplinary perspectives that address territorial phenomena in their social and spatial complexity. Old questions must be reformulated together with the emergence of other new questions that advocate from an ethical perspective for the reduction of inequalities and freedom of thought,in a manner consistent with the mission of the University of Chile. Secondly, the creation of theory is fostered from two types of intersections,on the one hand,of an interdisciplinary order, and on the other hand, from the dialogue between the knowledge produced in regions of the global north with the multiple knowledge and knowledge that have originated in Latin America. Third, the D_TES seeks to explore with methodologies consistent with the interdisciplinary condition and the empirical dimension of the projects that are carried out within it. In this way,an orientation of multimethods and reflexivity in their applications are a fundamental part of the scientific project of the program. The doctoral proposal is configured around three lines of research, representative of the fields of production of current knowledge of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of Chile.
