The PhD program of Mathematics is focused on the preparation of scientific and conceptual researchers with competence for scientific research in the didactics of mathematics and the analysis and evaluation of curriculum contents of mathematics teaching, including universities preparing teachers. The doctoral study program Didactics of Mathematics aims to prepare qualified scientists focusing on the study of problems related to mathematical education at primary and secondary schools and to prepare mathematics teachers. Graduates can work at faculties preparing mathematics teachers whose teaching didactics of mathematics and related subjects should be led by experts in this field of science.

Candidates for doctoral studies in Didactics of Mathematics are expected to: show interest in mathematics education in general (for example, by taking part in scientific conferences and conferences for teachers), have an overview of the most important scientific journals and books related to mathematics education, have an idea of the area of mathematics education they are willing to focus on in their studies and be able to specify it in a written project of up to 10 pages (including tentative research questions, methodology and theoretical background and a list of references).
