It is an interdisciplinary study at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University, which combines classical physics (mainly continuum mechanics and thermodynamics) with mathematical analysis and numerical mathematics. The student should go from creating or understanding the physical background of the model through mathematical analysis of the resulting problem to its numerical solution. Given the complexity of the issues addressed in both research and practice, collaboration between scientists of different disciplines is necessary. Often these are physicists or model engineers and mathematicians who deal with the mathematical aspects of the models and their numerical solutions.
