PhD in Geography

3 Years On Campus Phd Program

Autonomous University of Barcelona

Program Overview

The courses for the PhD in Geography began in 1977-1978 but the first actual formal PhD programme in Geography was first offered in 1986-1987. Initially, the programme was called PhD in Geography but in 1994-1995 it was divided into two options: Human Geography, which continued the traditional programme, and Demography, offered by the Centre for Demographic Studies (CED) at the UAB. The main objective of the PhD in Geography is to train researchers in topics related to the most innovative fields in geography. The programme is especially designed to guarantee knowledge and critical analysis in a specific field of study and the associated methodology, enabling the PhD candidate to communicate the results of their research to the scientific, academic and professional communities. It is therefore essential to produce a PhD thesis that consists of an original piece of research.
