PhD in English in Medieval Literature

3 Years On Campus Phd Program

University of Cambridge

Program Overview

With its experienced and energetic community of students and faculty, its outstanding libraries, and its strong and continuing tradition of excellence in Medieval studies, the Faculty of English at Cambridge is an ideal place to study for a PhD in the literature of this period. Medieval literature is central to the Faculty at every level. The Chair in Medieval and Renaissance Literature (founded for CS Lewis in 1954) ensures leadership. All undergraduates study at least one Medieval paper, which ensures teaching opportunities are available to PhD students. Training in teaching and in other aspects of professional life (such as presentation skills) are all available. Our postgraduate students have an excellent track record in becoming leading scholars, and while they are in Cambridge they have been a dynamic and successful group.
