Founded in 1209, the University of Cambridge is the world’s third oldest surviving university. It is a public research university located in Cambridge, England and is one of the elite universities in the United Kingdom.

The university comprises of 31 autonomous colleges (Christ's College, Churchill College, Clare College, Corpus Christi College, Downing College, Emmanuel College, Fitzwilliam College, Girton College, Gonville & Caius College, Homerton College, Hughes Hall, Jesus College, King's College, Lucy Cavendish, Magdalene College, Murray Edwards College, Newnham College, Pembroke College, Peterhouse, Queens' College, Robinson College, Selwyn College, Sidney Sussex College, St Catharine's College, St Edmund's College, St John's College, Trinity College, Trinity Hall and Wolfson College) and six schools (School of Arts and Humanities; School of Biological Sciences; School of Clinical Medicine; School of Humanities and Social Sciences; School of Physical Sciences; and School of Technology). The university offers 30 undergraduate courses covering more than 65 subject areas.
The total student population at the university is more than 21,000 of which over 12,000 are enrolled in undergraduate courses. The university has a student to faculty ratio of 11:1 and a dropout rate of 1.4%. About 11% of its undergraduate students are from countries outside of the European Union and represent 65 nations.

The undergraduate courses at the university cover the subject area very broadly in the initial years of the degree and then offer a wide range of options to the students in which to specialize in the later years. The University of Cambridge takes the view that its students should not work during term-time. It offers a wide range of financial support to undergraduates so they do not need to find paid work during their term time.

1. Gates Cambridge Scholarships for International Students
Gates Cambridge Scholarships are one of the most prestigious international scholarships in the world. Scholarships are awarded to outstanding students from countries outside the UK who wish to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge.
Eligibility Criteria/ Scholarship Guidelines
You can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship if you meet the following requirements:
- You should be a citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom.
- One must be applying to pursue one of the following full-time residential courses of study: Ph.D. (three-year research-only degree); MSc or MLitt (two-year research-only degree); or a one-year postgraduate course (e.g. MPhil, LLM, MASt, Diploma, MBA, etc.)

2. Schlumberger Cambridge Scholarships for Students from Developing Countries
The scholarships are provided in collaboration with Schlumberger Cambridge Research Limited and are meant for pupils who are from developing countries and are following courses of research leading to the degree of Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge.
Eligibility Criteria /Scholarship Guidelines
Candidates are to be from a developing country and should be admitted to Cambridge through the University’s normal academic procedures. They are expected to apply to a Ph.D. research program in technological and scientific subjects offered at the University.
He/she should have a first class or high second class honors degree, or it's equivalent, from a recognized university. Those who are not native speakers of the English language are expected by the Board of Graduate Studies to provide the results of an English language test and to achieve the minimum standard that shows proficiency required for admission to Cambridge.
