PhD in Biochemistry

3 Years On Campus Phd Program

University of Cambridge

Program Overview

The main objective of doing PhD degree is to become a competent researcher who can conduct independent research. This requires deep knowledge in a specific area, broader knowledge about the general area, the experience of working on a research problem, and the ability to effectively write and present scientific data. Many of the skills required will be acquired within the student s research group where the student will acquire and hone skills in experimental design, develop competence in technical skills and refine the ability to interpret scientific data in a logical and meaningful way, with consideration of previous published work and recent developments in the area. Other skills will be developed outside their research group: at the beginning of their first year students attend an in-house training course of lectures and practicals, and can subsequently continue their training in many areas, choosing from the wide range of courses available within the Graduate School of Life Sciences and the University.
