Quantum mechanics

As more and more experiments carried out since the beginning of the twentieth century have shown, the laws of Newtonian mechanics cease to be valid as soon as one attempts to apply them on a very small scale, that of atoms, molecules or nuclei. We then enter the field of quantum mechanics, where the physical laws take on a completely different nature which could be formalized in a rigorous manner at the end of the 1920s.
