On Campus
This course will introduce you to the basics of scale model building by hand. The course is broken into sections such as the history of model building, what scale is, why you would build a model and also the different types, as well as the tools, equipment and materials needed for model building. This course is aimed at aspirant model builders who have a passion for beautiful things and an eye for detail. Students of architectural and interior background can also benefit from this course, as models help to translate abstract design ideas into tangible objects that clients can understand. No prior learning is required; however the Architectural Presentation and Presentation Drawing modules provide access to a wide variety of presentation skills. The Furniture Design module will also be a great follow up for this course as it explores the prototype model in more detail. At the end of this module the student will be able to make informed decisions about the process of creating scale models, showing the ability to select the appropriate model type, scale size, materials and detailing for a high-quality model.
