After a much heated debate and fear of losing talent from the country, the UK government announced the PSW visa in the UK reopens 2019, which is expected to attract more international students. The UK government has revised its post-study work visa 2019 scheme which is effective from 2020. This latest news of post-study work visa in the UK will allow fresh graduate students from anywhere including India to work or even search for work at any skill level which can be upgraded to skilled work visa after two years. The home secretary Theresa May discarded the old work permit after study in the UK that was closed since 2012 and announced these revisions. Here are key revisions in the latest post-study work permit in the UK.
- Students have been granted permit to stay in the UK post study
The new post-study work visa route announced by the Boris Johnson government will now permit Indian students to stay back in the United Kingdom for two years and search for work after graduation. At present the post-study work visa for Indian students in the UK allows them to stay for four months after the completion of any bachelor's or master's degrees. Students studying in UK are on a pilot scheme which means student on a Tier 4 pilot visa for masters course of 13 months or less, get six months to stay back.
- Students enrolling for 2020-21 academic year are eligible for the scheme
"It is expected that students entering the UK in the 2020-21 academic year intake will be eligible for this route. It has been announced now so that universities, stakeholders and customers preparing for the next academic year are aware of this change and could feature this as part of the plans," British Deputy High Commissioner to India Jan Thompson said. The announcement is expected to shoot up the fresh intakes from 4.5 lakh to 6 lakh.
- The new immigration route supports Indian students desire to work in the UK
British Council India's director (North) Tom Birtwistle said the new graduate immigration route supports the ambitions of Indian students who wish to pursue consider post-study work option when making their choice of studying abroad.
- The new revision is non-extendable and does not count towards settlement
There will be a separate two year long visa according to this scheme. A fresh application for visa will be mandatory that includes payment of a visa fee and immigration health surcharge. This new visa norm is non-extendable and does not count towards settlement unless a student qualifies for a skilled job and then settle in the country.
- Students should apply before their leaves expire
Expired leaves after graduating will exempt a student to qualify for this new post-study work permit in the UK 2020.

Post-Study Work Visa Basic Requirements
A candidate must have completed a Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, Ph.D, a Post Graduate Certificate or Diploma (including PGCE) from a recognized UK institute of higher education, along with the following things:
- student must be able to support oneself financially without accessing public funds
- A student must apply within 12 months of completing the course
- Student must meet the English language ability requirements with sufficient supporting funds, as specified by the UK Government at the time of application.
Visa Conditions
An applicant has now 2 years to live and work in the UK with the Graduate Visa. If the applicant had a partner or any dependent child in the UK on their student visa, then they can be transferred to the IGS visa.
