Integrated Business and Engineering BS

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Purdue University West Lafayette

Program Overview

Purdue University’s Integrated Business and Engineering (IBE) combines business strategy with engineering, mathematics, technology and programming, preparing students to make data-driven decisions and lead at the intersection of business and technology. Designed for students who want both business and technical knowledge, the program combines roughly 60% business and 40% engineering coursework with hands-on, team-based projects and opportunities to specialize in Data Analytics, Financial Engineering, Operations or a customized focus.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1: Students establish the mathematical, scientific and business foundations needed for the interdisciplinary IBE curriculum. Courses include General Chemistry, Analytical Geometry & Calculus I, Microeconomics, Introductory Accounting, Modern Mechanics and introductory EPICS/VIP experiences, while the IBE Seminar introduces students to the program and its business-engineering focus.

Year 2: The second year develops stronger business, analytical and programming capabilities alongside engineering coursework. Students study subjects such as Management Accounting, Marketing Management, Business Statistics, Financial Management and Programming for Business Applications, while continuing engineering and IBE seminar work.

Year 3: Students move further into interdisciplinary problem-solving and begin developing their chosen specialty. The curriculum includes Multivariate Calculus, Operations Management, Management Information Systems, Intellectual Property Management and IBE Innovation Lab/VIP, allowing students to connect technical knowledge with organizational and business challenges.

Year 4: The final year focuses on strategic decision-making, organizational leadership, data communication and advanced application of the degree. Students take courses such as Strategic Management, Organizational Behavior and Storytelling With Data, complete specialty and business-depth coursework, and finish with the IBE Capstone Project, bringing their business and engineering knowledge together in a substantial project.

Focus Areas

Students can build their IBE pathway around Data Analytics, Financial Engineering, Operations or a student-designed/custom focus developed with academic advising.

Learning Outcomes

Students develop the ability to make data-driven business decisions using technology, mathematics and engineering principles; understand how technical and business teams operate; analyze systems and resources; lead multidisciplinary teams; communicate with technical and business stakeholders; and apply engineering and business knowledge to real-world innovation and strategic problems.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation)

The IBE program is offered through Purdue University’s Mitch Daniels School of Business in partnership with the College of Engineering. The Daniels School of Business is an AACSB-accredited business school; Purdue’s official site identifies it as an accredited member of AACSB.
