University History

Purdue University is one of the oldest universities in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Indiana General Assembly in 1869 chose the Lafayette area after accepting a donation from John Purdue to establish the University. Purdue University first started a college of science, engineering and agriculture. The university began its classes with only six instructors and 39 students and now it tops the chart in the highest international enrollment among the public universities in the U.S. Purdue University now has four different campuses.

Purdue University Infrastructure and Services

Campuses 

The Purdue University Campus is situated in West Lafayette, Indiana. The University is close to the Wabash River. Purdue University has four different Campuses: Purdue University West Lafayette Campus is the main campus, and all other three are the regional campuses, Purdue Northwest, Purdue Fort Wayne, and Purdue University Indianapolis. The main campus of the University comprises of the Purdue Mall, Memorial Mall, South Campus, West Campus, Northern campus, Stadium Avenue.

Purdue mall

This mall is also known as the Engineering mall. It has got the Purdue Bell tower in the middle of the mall. It has the largest theatre called the Edward C. Elliot Hall of Music. 

Memorial mall

The Memorial mall comprises some of the major buildings like the Stewart Center, Wetherill Laboratory of Chemistry, Stanley Coulter Hall, and the Class of 1950 Lecture Hall, the Recitation Building, University Hall, and Stone Hall. 

South campus

The southern part of the university consists of the agricultural, fine arts, life sciences, and veterinary buildings. This part also has the Krannert School of Management, Horticulture Gardens, Discovery Park, Lyles Porter Hall and the Purdue Airport. 

West campus

The western part of the University consists of the student housing, dining, and recreation facilities. It also has the Cordova Recreational Sports Center, the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.

North Campus

The northern part comprises of the various stadiums like the: Ross-Ade Stadium, Mackey Arena, and Slayter Center of Performing arts. 

Libraries

The Purdue University libraries operate under the Libraries and School of Information Studies System. The Purdue University Libraries have six subject-oriented libraries, the undergraduate library, the Virginia Kelly Karnes Archives, and Special Collection Research Center. According to the official website of the University it has “317,331 printed volumes and electronic books; 227,814 electronic and print journals; and government documents and microforms in excess of 400,000.” In 2015, the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), awarded Purdue University Libraries with the Excellence in Libraries Award based on the Libraries’ innovative initiatives. Those include: leadership in re-defining the role of libraries to meet the needs and expectations of its university; creating a research community in the 21st century, programs and projects in information literacy; new space designs; new publishing models; international collaborations; and data management. Scholarship for International students

Purdue University Scholarship for International Students are a good one to look forward to. There is financial-need-based scholarship, merit-based scholarship, college-based scholarship. 

Freshman merit scholarships are awarded based on a holistic review of all information provided via the admission application. Factors considered include:

Purdue University Admission Process is a longer one as it includes various steps and processes. One can apply for graduate, undergraduate, online courses, certificate courses and research programs.

Purdue Exponent is a newspaper run by students. The University has a yearbook called the “Debris”. WBAA is the University’s radio station.

The Purdue University football team called the “Boilermakers” is quite famous and has represented the university at the NCAA Football Bowl subdivision. Purdue basketball competes in NCAA Division I and is a member of the Big Ten Conference.
