Details about CAS letter for International Students

What is a CAS Letter?

A Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) letter is your first step to admission to a foreign university. Issued by the concerned university, the document supports the student visa application after the aspirant meets the academic and financial criteria required for admission.

Such an acceptance letter is issued after the applicant has accepted the offer and paid the required fee to secure their place. Technically, the formal letter includes personal details, course of study, study duration, and a unique CAS number, which confirms the student’s acceptance of the terms and conditions offered by the university. In this article, we will understand the importance of CAS letters.

The CAS statement is delivered through the mail and includes the following -

  • A 14-digit reference number
  • Report of English language ability through IELTS or other entrance exam scores
  • Sponsor License Number of the concerned university along with the Address
  • Title, tuition fees, advance payments, commencement, and conclusion of your course
  • Details of the qualifications that secured your admission
  • Passport details

Why is CAS Letter Important?

The CAS letter is crucial for visa application. Without it, one cannot make a student visa application. It constitutes 30 points for a Tier 4 (G) Student visa.

Many top-notch universities send the CAS letter through their administration; some require you to apply separately for the CAS number. A unique reference number sent by the university matches up with your CAS. This number must be visible in the Tier 4 section of the visa application. The visa authorities then process your application to verify the number and corroborate documents.

How to Apply for a CAS letter?

Every university follows a different procedure concerning its admission services. After accepting an offer, the University, on behalf of the student, contacts the respective government’s Visas and Immigration Department for the CAS number and confirms whether the student is accepted. The officiating department then issues the CAS number to the university, and the university issues the same to the student. The processing time for a CAS letter is about 15 days.

Usually, a first-come-first-serve basis is standard for issuing the CAS. It is advisable to fill out the registration forms as soon as they are released. The earlier an applicant submits her application, the more preference she is likely to get.

CAS Letter Requirements

It is crucial to receive the CAS letter without any authoritative hindrance. Therefore, submitting the correct documents during the application process is important. Some essential CAS letter requirements are as follows:

  • An updated passport
  • Transcripts, Marksheets of the previous PG or UG course completed

All these documents must be valid and contain the proper credentials. Once the document verification is complete, the CAS number is issued.
