In all three course variants, emphasis is placed on examining the linguistic, literary and cultural phenomena in their respective socio-cultural and political contexts. The interlocking of linguistic and literary content with content from Cultural Studies is therefore central to the structure of the courses. Completion of the subject Anglophone Studies in the two-subject Bachelors degree at the University of Duisburg-Essen or an equivalent or comparable degree in the field English Studies, American Studies or English Linguistics, overall grade of the degree must usually be at least 2.5 or better, foreign university entrance qualification must pass the German language test for university entrance DSH 2 level or the TestDaF TDN 4 before starting their studies, Students whose mother tongue is not English or whose language skills in the Bachelors program have not reached at least level C1 must demonstrate English language skills corresponding to level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages CEFR before starting their studie, proof of a Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English at least Grade B or equivalent proof.
