Three of the very prestigious Chinese universities Renmin University of China, Nanjing University and Lanzhou University have decided to withdraw their names from the world rankings. This means that they will no longer participate in any international ranking systems. This is likely to decrease the inclusivity of these rankings as China has decided to restrain itself. This has caused a wave of comfisuyas some say that improving ranks was never a goal for Chinese universities. They don't need legitimacy and it's not something that they chase anymore, wheras others suspect the decision of many other major universities to continue their involvement in the international rankings system.
